Remission is a first-person, reflexive, documentary short film that explores how significant a shared passion for the natural world is in understanding loss, legacy, love, along with the discovery of an appreciation for something unexpected.
Home videos are combined with contemporary footage, with the absence of narration and music, in an attempt to illustrate the role the natural world plays in maintaining a connection between me and my deceased father. Years later, I become a father myself and I am gifted with the joy of passing on my father's shared legacy of love and respect for wildplaces, combined with my own interest in filmmaking, to my daughter.
